Message from Housing 8.31.2020

Greetings!

Below you will see an important email from Craig Allen, Executive Director, Housing & Residence Life.  Though the same letter was sent to students earlier today, I encourage you to reinforce the message with your student.  Sadly, It is not uncommon for official university emails to remain unopened.

Thank you for your assistance with keeping our campus safe!

Be safe!

k

Dear residents,

As we begin week three of classes, I want to share some reminders about your residence hall policies and COVID – 19 protocols, especially as it relates to testing, quarantine and isolation. There is also a great deal of programming happening in your halls, so I hope that you will take advantage of those times to get to know your neighbors.

It is also important for you to know there is NO plan to close halls and send students home. All resident students have a full year license agreement, and we are NOT releasing students to move off-campus.

COVID-19, your health and more

  • Each day you should monitor how you are feeling. Do you feel well? Do you have a temperature, sore throat or persistent headache? If something seems off, visit the health center. It’s far better to be sure you are well, than to be moving around campus while you are not well. For more information visit the website. https://www.tcu.edu/connected-campus/covid-19/posts/covid-19-notification-process-20200823.php
  • If you test positive we will ask you to move to an isolation space (unless you live in a suite or apartment, have a private bedroom and access to a bathroom for your use only.) If you are moved you will go to an on campus space dedicated for isolation, or to off-campus housing near TCU in a space we have secured for isolation needs. We will get you keys and access to the new room, and transportation if needed. You will not go to class at this time.
  • If in isolation we will provide you with sheets and blankets for the bed. You will bring your own pillow and towels, and you will pack a bag with belongings you need for up to 10 days. You will have a care coordinator who will talk with you about the isolation space and all the services we provide, including: meal service, laundry, trash, deliveries to your room of medications or essential items.
  • If you are exposed to someone who is positive and you are deemed a close contact, you will be asked to quarantine for up to 14 days. You will do this in the room you live in now. You should monitor your health during this time and report any COVID-19 type symptoms, such as fever, cough or shortness of breath.

You will be well cared for while in isolation. You will have a number you can call at any time, a list of campus resources, Wi-Fi, and a comfortable place to sleep and study. Your cooperation for a short time in an isolation space helps us slow the spread of the virus and it allows us to keep students living on campus.

Programming

  • You should be following your residence hall on Instagram for updates on hall programs and activities, and as a way to connect with other residents in your hall. Follow TODAY!
  • In the first week we had programs in all halls. We do this to help you meet new people and to give you a break from classes and a chance to have some fun and unwind.
  • Campus wide programming can be found by following What2Do@TCU on Instagram, or go to https://what2do.tcu.edu/

Policy reminders

  • Masks are required every time you leave your residence hall room. This includes in the evening, and on the weekends. It is a simple thing to do, and it will help prevent the spread of the virus.
  • Guests (non-TCU students) are NOT permitted in the residence halls.
  • TCU students may visit other residence halls, but you must abide by the limits for rooms and public spaces. Generally speaking lounges are limited to 10 or fewer, except in some of the larger first floor lobby areas. In your room, you may have up to double the occupancy of your room. So as an example a double may have a maximum of 4 students. A four person suite can have a maximum of 8 students.

All of the staff in Housing and Residence Life are so glad to have you on campus. We want to keep you here. We all need to work together, we need to MASKUPTCU (on Instagram now) and we need to care about each other. Horned Frogs look out for other Frogs, and we are counting on you to do the same. Your hall is a place where you will make friendships and make memories, so please continue to do the right thing, and enjoy the fall semester here on campus!

Thanks all and GO Frogs!!

Craig Allen
